It’s been a rough week, and we are exceptionally sad to have lost a dear friend and mentor Matthieu Keijser.

In the late 1980s I spent a fair bit of time on the rivers of Nova Scotia with my fly rod, thrashing the waters in search of the elusive king of fish, Salmo Salar - the atlantic salmon.

My family consists of two main groupings. First and foremost, the single most important group of people in my life is my wife Heather, daughter Kate and son Peter. These are the most amazing people I know. My life revolves around these relationships.
The second group is my mother and siblings. Dad died in 2002, and my oldest sister Maria died in 2005. The remaining siblings are Hetty, Gerald, Susan and Carolyn. I am the youngest.
The Art of Margaret van Gurp (Mom)
My father died in August of 2002
My sister Maria Wilhelmina died in 2005
My Sister Hetty is founder and President of Peaceful Schools International
My Brother Gerald
Older brother Gerald has been living in Montreal’s Mile End with his family for the last 25 years, occasionally performing at neighbourhood venues an eclectic mélange of George Brassens, bossa nova, old time, jazz standards, etc. Day job is general practice: emergency, palliative home care and office, all close to home.
My Sister Susan is a Vice Principal at a deaf school in Vancouver, BC
but is in the process of taking a year of leave to establish a new school for the hearing impaired in Mexico. It’s excitinf stuff, and she’s a perfect person for the project, having helped develop and run a similar project in Jocotepec, Jalisco Mexico 25 years ago.
My sister Carolyn is an Educator and Human Rights Activist currently embarking on what appears to be the most significant project of her life with an organization CDPeace which seeks to establish development mechanisms in Sierra Leone.
I have nephews and nieces as well who are all terrific individuals that I love dearly. Each has their own special qualities. I’ll add a link here to my nephew Joseph Adams because 1) he’s the only one of that generation I’m aware of with a presence on the web and 2) without his tutetlege I probably would never have been adept enough to set up this and the many other sites I maintain.
Note that everything below here is subject to edit for broken links etc

June 2007 - No major trips planned but now that the cottage is taking shape it will be a favourite destination. Just perfect at 1:50hr. Too bad I can’t haul lumber with the ST.
March 21, 2007 - I pulled off the cover and looked it all over - there’s barely even any dust on it, however there’s been some coolant seepage which I understand is not uncommon on STs. It’s a matter of tightening some clamps (or leaving it as-is). The seepage was minimal - maybe 4 cc’s. It’s still cold this week - minus 7 with a windchill of minus 14. There’s some ice and plenty of salt on the roads so no immediate plans to fire it up, but soon… very soon.
December 27, 2006 - I am finally pulling the battery and oiling the cylinders and draining the carbs. There’s stabilizer in the fuel system and she’s tucked away in my shed all safe and sound waiting for spring.
February 2006 I was delighted to buy a 2000 Honda ST1100Y from a Honda dealer in Edmundston, New Brunswick. She had just 12,000 Kms on the clock and looked like new. This bike is legendary for reliability and performance.

Well… I have finally exited the world of plain html editing and set up this Wordpress database site management system. I made my first web page in around 1994 using Notepad on a Chebucto Community Net account.
Actually this is a work-in-progress and isn’t really ready to replace my original site at this time.

Hello… welcome to my website. It’s another version of various personal sites I have published since around 1994. Without going into too much detail, I would describe myself as a very ordinary individual with a great life enriched by my family and friends and a variety of interests and hobbies and activities that keep me busy.
