Carnival!

We are going to dance up a storm at the 3rd annual Brazilian Carnival party this Friday evening February 16 at the old Olympic Gardens - a.k.a. The Dirty O, on Cunard Street.

The lineup includes Brazilian capoeira and music from the Pernambulando Dance Company owned by Mario and Paula Silva. Zumbi and Verbal Warnin’ reggae band will be playing too.

In preparation Heather and I made some masks… it was like a Carnival mask sweatshop:

Also on April 14, my band Samba Nova will host a Dance Party at the North Street Church. I’ll be sure to post a lot more information and regular updates as the date comes closer… it’s very exciting!

We are in the early stages but it looks like we will have a great turnout. In keeping with the spirit of Samba Nova there won’t be a bar so that young people can attend, and we’ll be giving out some music makers (I won’t give any more details) and engaging the whole audience in making samba music. We also have Peruvian latin DJ Johnny lined up and maybe some more entertainment.

Stay tuned for more samba music news!
